IF A FIRE APPROACHES YOUR HOME

  • Warn your neighbours
  • Wet the walls, roof, and the ground, creating a buffer zone of 10 metres around your house
  • Close all doors, windows and other openings, and close any blinds or shutters
  • Remove furniture, tarpaulins or firewood near your house
  • If it is safe to do so, close and move gas containers to a safe location
  • Move anything that can burn away from the windows and place wet towels along the bottom of the frames
  • If you are not in danger, put out small fires using water, sand or green branches.

FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS OF THE AUTHORITIES AND THE LOCAL SAFETY OFFICER

IF YOU ARE TRAPPED BY A FIRE

  • Make your way to a collective shelter or place of refuge. If one is not nearby, take refuge in a flat area with water or little vegetation
  • Stay close to the ground and, if possible, breathe through a wet cloth to avoid inhaling the smoke
  • Cover your head and the rest of your body
  • Use a wet cloth to protect your face from the heat and smoke.
