SAFETY CONDITIONS

Follow all rules regarding the use of machinery.
Avoid fines of up to €60,000.

  • Check the electrical installation and the fuel lines. Make sure that there are no leaks and that they are not rubbing against other components.
  • Check the radiator and oil cooler. Keep them clean so that they do not overheat.
  • Do no let dust and other flammable residues build up on the components of overheated machinery, such as the belts.
  • Avoid contact between cutting tools – such as knives, brush cutter chain flails, among other tools – and stones and wires.
  • Fuel machinery when switched off, cool, and away from highly flammable areas.
  • Make sure you are using suitable jerrycans, that they have safety caps and are stored in the shade.

Many fires are caused by work performed with agricultural or forestry machinery and equipment.

 

Obey the rules and restrictions in effect.

During the critical period, the following is mandatory for all work involving machinery with internal and external combustion engines (tractors, trucks and heavy duty vehicles):

  • The use of spark arresters (tightly-woven mesh screen).
  • The use of flame arresters in exhaust pipes and chimneys.
  • Have one 6kg fire extinguisher (for vehicles or machinery of less than 10 tonnes) or two 6kg fire extinguishers (for vehicles or machinery of over 10 tonnes).
FOR YOUR SAFETY AND THAT OF OTHERS

On the highest fire danger days, the use of grass/weed trimmers (unless they have nylon line), brush cutters and shredders is prohibited. Avoid the use of disc harrows.

 

Avoid working on hot days and during peak heat hours.

STAY ALERT

Do not work alone in potentially dangerous situations, such as during the night, complex operations or those performed in isolated and uninhabited areas.

  • Rest and drink water regularly to avoid fatigue. Do not drink alcoholic beverages.
  • Take your mobile phone with an emergency contact list.
  • Before you start working, familiarise yourself with your surroundings so that you can provide your exact location in the event of an accident.
  • Remain vigilant while operating machinery.

WHAT TO DO IN CASE OF FIRE

  • Cut the motor/engine and immediately turn off the master switch.
  • Try to put out the fire using an extinguisher to prevent it from spreading.
  • If you are unable to put the fire out, CALL 112 and indicate its exact location.
  • Get yourself to safety.
